Overview
An important factor for the success of any theatrical performance lies in the understanding of the psychological connection between the Actor (actual person) and the Role (fictional person) he has to perform.
The first activity (theoretical) of the Technique is the Psychotheatrological Analysis of Roles, which deals with their psychic structure and emotional pattern (see: Theoretical Background).
Using the Objective Data that arise from the play’s plot, the psychic background of every Role is decoded and analyzed so that it becomes a guide, both for the actor and the director.
Throughout the play, the psychic structure and emotional pattern of each Role remain fixed, whereas the specific emotions vary in intensity, in accordance with the situation/event that the Role experiences in each scene.
The way in which, both the actor and the director, experience the emotional charges of the Role, in order for the former to embody the Role on stage and the latter to teach the Role to the actor, concerns the second activity (experiential) of the Technique.
Utilizing methods from the latest developments in psychotherapy, during the Experiential activity the artist (actor + play director) gets in touch with the emotional arousal each role has.
For theatrical productions, the play which the theater company will put on stage is being analysed through the Technique and the members of the theater company are guided to understand the psychic structure of all the roles.
This methodology has two stages:
